The Bedroom

The BedroomThough the bedroom is the most personal section of a house and guests don't normally walk into it without invitation, keeping it clean is important for your own sake. There are people who clean their bedrooms on a daily basis, by making the bed, straightening up the room and picking up the clothes lying around. There are others who do intensive cleaning in a two day shift, right from clearing the cobwebs and dusting the ceiling to scrubbing and mopping the floor, and changing all the curtains.

How to clean the bedroom?

As a bedroom contains a fair share of personal stuff, furniture and interior decoration articles, it is not easy to clean it by merely dusting and mopping. Some tips to clean and organize your bedroom with specific focus on various common items are mentioned below:

The Clothes

Start cleaning the bedroom by placing everything cluttered and strewn around in its proper place. It would be hard to move around and clean if the floor is piled up. Pick up all the clothes and laundry and keep them folded in the cupboard or the laundry bag respectively, to avoid them from getting dirty or coming in your way.

The Books

Books, mails and periodicals are to be neatly arranged on bookracks. Don't bang the books while dusting, as this could loosen the binding and make the pages fall loose. Avoid cluttering your bedside with a number of books; keep only the ones you refer to regularly and the one you are currently reading.

Furniture

Wooden furniture in the room should be varnished and polished from time to time to retain the shine. The dressing table usually contains delicate articles like parfumes, trinkets, cosmetics and expensive jewelry. If some of the jewelry is not used very often, it is always safer to place them in a box to avoid rusting or any other chemical reaction. Use a soft cloth to clean the mirror and don't leave any watermarks that can cause staining.

The Closet

The closet serves as a storage space for clothes. It should be kept clean to avoid dust particles from settling on the clothes. You could place naphthalene balls to keep cockroaches and insects away. Use home remedies like vinegar and baking soda to get rid of that funny musty smell one usually gets in closets due to lack of ventilation. The shoes closet should be sprinkled with baking soda to absorb the odors.

The Bed

The bed should be nice and tidy at all times with clean sheets. Straightening the sheets makes them look more appealing. Keep the blankets and sheets clean to make them smell fresh.

While cleaning the bedroom, the mattress should be flipped at least once every six months to give it an even wear. To protect the surfaces, keep it wrapped with a washable cover. Vacuum the mattresses to do away with the extra dust. You could try using special covers that are designed to reduce the dust mite allergies and thereby save the trouble of using a vacuum cleaner. Use a mild detergent or shampoo to clean the soil and dirt from the surface of the mattress.

Upholstery

The curtains and table covers can be cleaned from time to time with a mild detergent. It's advisable to replace the curtains with fresh washed ones once a week.

Thrash Bins

If you keep thrash bins in the bedroom, you should avoid disposing food or any edible items in them as they attract fleas and mosquitoes. Use them only for throwing face tissues, unwanted paper and other rubbish.
